The bridge is named after the Rialto market which is close by and the original wooden bridge was built in 1255 - however it burned down and was replaced by today's stone bridge in 1591 (still quite old for a bridge crossed by millions of people a year!)
There are shops lining each side of the bridge and excellent views down the Grand Canal with all the hustle and bustle of the busy waterway laid in front of us.
After some refreshments and a rest - we carried on our walking tour through the alleyways and it seemed at every turn there was more to see.
The whole city lives on the water and here you can see the local fruit market is on a boat too.
