Today is Sunday - and a day of rest.... Or if you live in Hawaii, the day that you drive from the other side of the island to go to the one and only COSTCO on Big Island!
It seems our hosts love to go to Costco and the brand new TARGET store which is in the town of Keauhou - where we ended up this morning.
However the day started much earlier with a 6 am walk along the beach for Carolyn and I.
We watched the sun rise over the mountains and strolled along the coral and lava beach.
The extinct volcano that overshadows the coastline was still clear as it was not yet warm enough for the clouds to build up around it's peak.

Later in the day after we had had an enormous brunch (again!) and had wandered around the hypermarkets for a while like our Hawaiian hosts - we discovered yet another almost empty beach at the end of a 2 mile lava covered road.
This one did have other visitors unlike yesterday, but the road to get here was a real challenge for the 4x4 Jeep that we have hired for this week.
Even after parking at the car park, there was more lava flow to negotiate to get to the beach as you can see from the pictures.
After a relatively lazy day we were treated to the most staggering colours in the sky as the sun set.
We had heard that the Hawaiian sunsets were spectacular - and so far we have not been disappointed.
None of these pictures has been altered in any way - the colours you see were exactly as they were earlier this evening - amazing!
Tomorrow we plan to take a trip to the Volcano National Park in the south of the island.
The current eruption of the Kilauea volcano is throwing up 250,000 - 650,000 cubic yards of lave per day!
That is apparently enough to resurface a 20 mile long two lane road every day!
Should be interesting.
Pictures tomorrow.
